I came across these gorgeous peonies at the grocery store the other day. I think they may be from a local grower, someone I would love to meet someday. I planted two peonies in the garden this spring and one is called Shirley Temple (my Mom loved Shirley Temple movies). They are very close to opening, and I believe the flowers will look much like the variety above.
I just love the creamy petals with the bright crimson centers. They evoke such an old-fashioned femininity.
