Cake Balls Made Semi-Homemade

I became a bit obsessed with cake balls and cake pops over the weekend.  I watched a You Tube video from the Queen of Cake Pops, Bakerella.  I now need her Cake Pops Book too!

I decided to give it a whirl.  I thought about baking a cake, per the instructions, but I felt a little lazy and did not want to mix up the ingredients bake and cool the cake.  I like instant gratification so I decided to buy the cake from my local grocery, this is where the "semi-homemade" part comes into play.
Ball Ingredients:

  • 1/4 sheet cake from your local bakery without icing
  • 1 can prepared icing in any flavor
  • Wax paper

Coating Ingredients:

  • Candy coating in any color you choose
  • Candy, sprinkles, nuts, chocolate shavings, mini marshmallows anything you can think of really

Cut the sheet cake into four pieces.  Rub two pieces together on the cut sides to crumble.
Blend one can of prepared icing to crumbled cake mixture.
I used a tablespoon to make large sized balls and a teaspoon to make mini sized balls. Note: The mixture is easier to work with if it is cold.  I had to place mine back in the fridge a few times because the cake was becoming too sticky.
I coated a batch in white candy coating and celebration sprinkles and a batch in pale pink.
Yum!
