Fire Down Below

How incredible and haunting are those photos? In 1971 in the village of Derweze, Turkmenistan there was a drilling accident where a massive underground natural gas cavern was punctured causing the ground to collapse and creating a hole of poisonous fumes. To minimalize the potential environmental catastrophe, geologists set the hole on fire but the crater hasn't stopped burning since. It's been over 40 years since that day! Have you heard about this before? xo

P.S: You can read more about it here.

Travel Fantasy: Tiny Houses on Tiny Islands

Since forever I've been in love with tiny houses on tiny islands. (I'm a huge water person...and you?). The Thousand Islands on the US - Canada border has the most adorable community of small cottages and I've just read that many of them are for rent during the summer season. Yahoo! I can totally picture Balazs and myself sailling in the sunset on the Saint Lawrence river, enjoying picnics in front of the house while dipping toes in the water or falling asleep to the sounds of nature! I bet you can also get a boat or a canoe? xo

P.S: Remember this little red house in Sweden?

Daydreaming

Somehow I'm really happy today and I can't help but daydream about chilling on a boat somewhere in Greece or Italy where the sun is shinning, sipping a glass of porch swing! I also wouldn't mind wearing stripes, comfy Keds and cool sunnies! Doesn't that sound like a plan?! Loves, what are you daydreaming about? xo

P.S: I have something really cute for you tomorrow...

Maine Daydreaming

Darlings, as my morning started off a bit chaotic, I'm daydreaming about having a picnic on a boat in Maine while playing fun games and hanging out with you :) xo

P.S: If you are still not sure about sailing with me, this west elm video will do the trick (giggle)

Travel Fantasy: Little Red House in Sweden

Today is my turn in the Spring Escape blog crawl project. Thanks Jillian from Cornflake Dreams for including me as I love daydreaming about beautiful vacation spots!

Ever thought about 'sleeping with the fishes'? No, literally :) For a while now Balazs and I are planning to spend a weekend in the Utter Inn, a cherry-red hotel floating in the middle of a Swedish lake. But don't be fooled by that tiny hut - it's only the tip of the iceberg. I love the idea of spending vacation somewhere totally remote (and different). Being able to go for a sunrise swim, an afternoon canoe trip or falling asleep while watching the fish swimming are just so appealing for us both. Darlings, what do you think? Are you planning any trips this spring or summer? xoxo

P.S: If you missed yesterday's post please visit Sandy a la mode and mark your calendars for tomorrow's post over fairy tales are true! xoxox

Breathing Space

The city is cold and gloomy this week so how about a few beautiful images from Switzerland to start off your Wednesday morning. Aren't they refreshing? I can almost feel the mountain air filling up my lungs. A few deep breaths and I'm ready for today. xoxo

Travel Fantasy: Iceland

I think it's fair to say by now that I'm obsessed with the dramatic beauty of Iceland. For some reason I find myself researching this amazing place over and over again. I can totally imagine myself spending a week in one of those little cites. A warm coat, good camera and hot wine, what else could I want, right? Also, on another note: New York, I Love You movie was really interesting. Each of the little stories was so captivating and now I can't wait to see Paris Je T'aime. Thanks for recommending it to me. xoxo

P.S:  If you're not sure about visiting, this will do the trick:)

Travel Fantasy: Baltic Sea (tiny) Island

Brilliant! Antti Laitinen is a Finnish artisit who embarked on a project of creating his own tiny island in the middle of the Baltic Sea. The whole process took him three month. It consisted of individually filling each of the 200 bags with sand and dragging them to the same spot in the sea (despite the harsh waves or bad weather conditions) until the island started to appear over the water. Aww...don't we all dream of a little spot in the world that is only ours? Darlings, what do you think? xoxo

P.S:  More amazing places:)

Venice After Dark

When this morning I saw those Venice photos that Monica found, I almost fell off my sofa. I'm still a bit on a "love high" from yesterday and those magical (almost painting-like) images just make me want to hop on a plane and fly there. Wouldn't you love to sit in one of the gondolas listening to the sound of the water? (fun fact: Balazs and I had a romantic dinner at that very restaurant on the third photo). xoxo

Travel Fantasy: Dunton Hot Springs

My jaw dropped when I stumbled upon this picturesque Dunton Hot Springs resort. This resort can be found deep in the San Juan Mountains of the Colorado Rockies and guess what: its a perfectly restored ghost town with endless possibilities to have fun. From horseback riding, mountain biking to even fly fishing (have you even done that?). I would probably spend the whole weekend in their bathhouse sipping wine and taking hiking trips! Ohh and you can rent the whole tiny town. It can easily accommodate you and up to 42 of your friends. Wouldn't you love to stay there?

P.S: Check out this wedding that took place there!

P.P.S: More travel destinations.

Arctic Kayaking

Oh my goodness, how is Arctic kayaking for a lifetime adventure? Those surreal and beautiful photos are from a science expedition by the northwest coast of Greenland. I've never even attempted to kayak before but this just looks too good to miss out on. Darlings, would you be brave enough? Have you been to the Arctic? xoxo

Travel Fantasy: India

I've been having a bit of a winter blues lately as we got some fresh snow today and it's been freezing (like) forever. So I've been swooning over Ashley's photos she and her husband, Aron took while on vacation in India. Looking at them makes me want to hop on a plane right now. Wouldn't you love to discover all those colourful spices, take a train ride to Mumbai and spend hours looking through local markets? Aren't their photos amazing? xoxo

P.S.Here is a random fun fact: Did you know that India has the most post offices in the world?

Venice Carnival

The Venice carnival is just a little over a month away and I can't stop daydraming about it. The last time Balazs and I went to Venice was four years ago and those photos are from that time. If you ever been there then you'll probably agree that the city feels so energized, incredibly festive and insanely busy. My jaw droped each time I saw one of those beautiful costumes (imagine the effort they had to put into it). Have you even been to Venice during the carnival season? How did you like it?  xoxo

Ps: We were really lucky with the weather. It was sunny all the way through.
