Entryways and staircases - basics that should not be ignored

Staircases and entryways are something most of us have in our homes yet so many people overlook them when decorating their home. If you are one of them, or are just bored with yours, hopefully you'll find some inspiration below...

Okay, so really I just love the dog bringing the watering can...so cute!!

It must be so wonderful to open the door at the end of the day to this large, sparse entry.


The wall paper is a bit much for me, but the architecture of the stairs is beautiful, and the painted underside is interesting as well



I like over-sized round tables in foyers.

Stairs....

If I ever build a cottage on our beach, I envision a spiral staircase leading to a loft that overlooks the lake. I'm sure it won't be as elaborate as this one, but hopefully it will impart the same character. The sculptural quality of this staircase, an antique that the owner happened upon as it was being unloaded onto a pier, is mesmerizing and makes you want to run to the top to see where it leads.

Modern day French interiors that still have that effortless glamour

It never fails that French interiors, through the ages, have always had a certain...je ne sais quoi. Their beauty and glamor seems so effortless and natural! Therefore, French interiors make for excellent eye candy - enjoy!



This bedroom has a palette I would never come up with on my own, but I think the effect is really nice and great for a bedroom.

A contemporary twist on that never fail crisp white and blue.


The above two images are actually from a home in Tuscany, but it was renovated and restored by a French architect. I think it's a nice blend, and I love the soft, earthy palette.

If Stephen Shubel designed my home, I'd probably never leave. It would be pretty easy to forget about commutes, traffic, meetings (bleh), and calling the stupid electric company to make sure they come fix the meter so it's only hooked up to my apartment and not the entire building!! (sorry, venting).
