French Home in Tourain

It's off to France today my friends. Located in Tourain, this home belongs to Virginia and Jean-Marc who roam garage sales and flea markets in search of furniture and ornaments in the Gustavian style they love. Jean-Marc restores their treasures and then Virginia gives them the final patina.

Renovated Country House

Hello, sweets! I'll do my best to post every day as usual, but our moving day is drawing closer and I still have a gazillion things to do. I go around with my check list and I tick off two items but instantly add another two so it feels like I'm not getting anything done!

So, I have to scuttle away now, and thus I leave you with this renovated house for you to enjoy. Stone, reclaimed beams, Gustavian furniture mixed with modern pieces, for a welcoming home. Notice how the arrangement of two sitting areas and dining room space in the huge living area makes it look cozy.

Hope you enjoyed today's tour.

Provencal House

Hi dears! I'm back in Argentina after a great snowy week in NY and Washington DC. As we had already visited most of the museums on previous trips we decided to go to the theatres and we saw four delightful shows: The Lion King, The Importance of Being Earnest, La Cage aux folles and Mary Poppins. All of them admirable.
Now we are staying here until Saturday and then we are finally going back to Brazil. Long, loong, lovely holidays!

Today I'd like to show you this Provencal house perched on a hillside with views of the village of Ramatuelle in France. It belongs to Stephane Olivier, an antique dealer who likes to mis styles, subjects and periods.

A Napoleon wrought iron garden chair and table on the terrace.

Objets et flore s'entendent à merveille
A mora clock stands next to a Swedish buffet side table. Above it hangs a Jules Didier 19th century painting called "The Gardener". The lamp was designed from a wooden boot.

Salle à manger inspiration brocante
As much as I love this house and its style, I wouldn't dream of placing a stuffed porcupine in the kitchen... nor anywhere else!

Les vestiges du temps visibles dès l'entrée
Interesting and unusual place to place a candle.

Terrasse au coeur de la nature
Leaning against the crumbling wall, an old carpenter's bench serves as a console with a pair of candles on it. Under the pergola, the mismatched chairs are Italian.

Fauteuil bronze et voilages clairs
Antique 18th century Italian chair.

Pichets en terre cuite
Detail of vases and pitcher on the dining room table.

Chambre épurée et zen
In the master bedroom an 18th century Swedish dresser.

Ready for Christmas in Stockholm

How nice it is to be home to spend my holiday with my family. I still have lots of things to do before Christmas but I'd like to show you this apartment in Stockholm before I start my busy day.

Located in Östermalm, a large district in central Stockholm, Sweden, it is all ready for Christmas. Gustavian furniture, gilded mirrors and a soft palette of greys and whites define this lovely home.

I'm sure I'll be able to make another post before Christmas. See you then!

Apartment in Paris

Right in the heart of lovely Paris, you can see the Eiffel Tower from this apartment. Mostly decorated in the Scandinavian Gustavian style with neutral tones and a soft palette. It was restored by architect Jean-Pierre Romanet.

Many objects bought at the Saint-Ouen flea market are displayed in the living room.

In the foyer, a balustrade lamp and clear cloches dress the white painted Gustavian table. An antique French trumeau hangs behind it. Parquet herringbone flooring.

Maisongustavien4
Hard to believe this kitchen belongs to the rest of the apartment with its modern lines and materials and integrated storage.

The Murano chandelier was designed specifically for the dining room. White painted Gustavian chairs, linen tablecloth and flea market finds complete the look.

A Louis XV sofa strongly contrasts with the contemporary glass coffee table.

I love the painting of the little boy playing with a plane. Even though it looks lovely casually leaning against the wall, I think it would soon be ruined after taking a couple of baths. I'd hang it far from splashes and protect it behind a glass pane. The storage baskets soften the modern geometric lines.
