Weekend Recap - Atlanta Shopping Finds

Happy Monday!  This is a tough one to face - we were all on spring break last week and getting up this rainy Monday wasn't easy!  We had a very productive shopping week, though. We found the perfect prom dress for Alyssa's senior prom and I got some great vintage pieces I'll be bringing over to the shop! I couldn't wait to share these with you - I snapped the photos at Mom's house.

Quite the find!  This is vintage Thomasville.  Geometric Chinoiserie in bamboo - spectacular!

Don't you think its a dead ringer for this chair in this NY apt. by Ashley Whittaker?

Italian made brass coffee table base.  It had a plywood top affixed to it when I bought it - I think someone was using it as a bench. . Needs a new glass top and a good cleaning. Have you tried Barkeeper's Friend on brass?  I highly recommend it - you can find it at most grocery stores and Walmart.

Unfortunately, I had to leave this framed Scottish flag at my Mom's place.  It wouldn't fit in my car!  When it does make it home it will live over the sofa in my family room. I think it's the perfect counterpoint to my busy and very traditional Persian rug.

Also got a pair of these big emerald green velvet pillows.

A sweet vintage landscape

And this vintage coffee table.

And Shelby made a few new friends at our visit to the Pet shop.

Have a great start to your week!

Novica.com

Due to a random Google search (I don't even recall what I was searching for at the time), I had the good fortune of stumbling upon Novica.com.  Have you been to this site?  National Geographic has put together this shopping site of artisan-made goods from all over the world.  Novica has a very well-rounded selection of handmade jewelry, art, furniture and textiles -  in every price range.

The design on these rattan baskets is created with hand-applied beads.

Heroic Elephants accent table from West Africa

Wool Geometric throws are from Andes artisans

Glass jewelry box with handpainted butterflies

Leather framed mirror from Peru.  Rope details make it even more unique!

Red Lightning wool rug from Mexico.

Elephant covered jar and elephant soapstone vase.

Also great to know, National Geographic/Novica reinvests profits from Novica into education for Artists!

Busy week ahead AND computer behaving badly -Google Chrome crashed : (    Hope you're off to a smoother start than I am!

Welcome to my shop!

We've traveled a tough road to get here but renovations are finally winding down and tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. we are opening our doors!  No small feat, we are in an old building that required some updating and renovating to make it useful once again and as with any renovation, it took longer and certainly cost more than expected.  The good news is we are open in time for the Mainx24 celebration which will be happening right outside the front door!  This is truly a unique event that is held in Chattanooga's revitalized Southside.  24 hours of parades, special events and merriment!  If you're nearby, it's an event that should not be missed.

Now on to the shop. Here are a few photos I snapped earlier today.  I'm so excited and would love to hear your feedback and any suggestions.  Thanks for coming along on the ride with me!  Oh, and locals - please stop in and see us in the newly renovated Merchants on Main building, located at 607 E. Main St. in downtown Chattanooga!

Change is in the Air!

When I first started blogging earlier this year I was nervous about so many things. It wasn't so much the writing or knowing what to say, but  I was intimidated by the computer stuff.  Up to that point, I really only used my computer to email and shop online.  I didn't even own a digital camera! My first few posts took hours to create because I had to keep referring to this

and I had the worst time learning how to find, upload and insert images.

I've known for months that I wanted some professional help to give my blog a more polished look and make it more interactive for visitors. The thing I didn't know was who to hire for my blog overhaul. I'd looked at several Custom Blog Design services out there, but hiring someone in cyberspace that didn't know me just didn't feel right.  I finally got my answer on one of my daily visits to Little Blue Deer! Shari was offering Custom Blog Design!  Finally, an option that felt just right!  Shari and I had been commenting and emailing for months and I knew she would come up with something fabulous that would represent me perfectly and take my blog to the next level!!

I'm so excited about my blog's new look and features ! Over the next few weeks I'll be posting some photos from my shop, too. I have a new location at the soon-to-open Merchants on Main here in Chattanooga where I'll be offering one-of-a-kind vintage pieces that will easily transition into our modern lives. Select pieces will also be available for purchase through the blog and will change frequently, so check often! This is something I am passionate about and I can't wait to share it with you!

Thanks again, Shari, for helping me up the next rung of my ladder! The future looks bright up here!!!

Let's Go Shopping - For Chinoiserie on Ebay

Are you enjoying the current resurgence of all things Chinoiserie?  I know I am and I think I caught it from my Mom.  She has used Asian-inspired accents throughout her home for years and these pieces look as current now as they did 20 years ago!  More good news.... great Chinoiserie pieces can be found in thrift stores, on craigslist and on ebay.  Mid-century pieces are usually bargain-priced and can be easily transformed with paint and/or fabric.

Wanna see what I found on ebay?

One of a set of 4

Vintage barkcloth fabric from the 40's.  Has a modern feel, right?

Same with these vintage jars

and these brass lamps

White lamps?  Love 'em.  Jar Lamps?  Love 'em.  Double Jeopardy!

I know...

These chunky pagodas are bookends.

If these were mine I would swap out the white shades for some black ones, then I would carry them around  my house for days deciding where they should go because I want them everywhere.

Gorgeous wallpaper that is no longer in production. How about lining the back of a cabinet with this?

These are vintage curtains and look to be in great condition - and who can say no to pink and green?

Was that as good for you as it was for me?

Coveted Cocktail Tables

I have been on a cocktail table search over the past few weeks and I came across some good ones!  Wanna see?

This etched silver table from Wisteria is reasonably priced and comes in a smaller version, too.

Successful marriage of classic marble and modern chrome.  And it won't break the bank.

An earthier option with a marble top - this one from Wisteria.

Another moderately priced and good-looking option from cb2.

I really like the look of this one.  My adjectives of choice are textural and unique! Unfortunately, the reviews are less than stellar.

Brass cocktail tables are back in a big way (yay!)
I think we all love the brass-rendered bamboo detailing of this offering from Nate Berkus!

This hourglass table is from Nate's HSN collection too.  At 18" diameter, it brings lots of style to a little space. You can choose a glass or stone top.

More brass loveliness from Horchow.

Modern organic?  The Penshell coffee table is from Horchow.

Got any to add to my list?
