Gorgeous poster designs to get your creative juices flowing

As some of you may or may not be aware, I have been a web designer (you can see some of the sites I've designed here) before I ever became interested in interior design, and it's still the primary way I get the bills paid. Web Designers, like most creatives, well, like anyone in any industry I suppose, require fresh sources of inspiration and need to stay on top of what the market is responding to. Normally I don't bring web/graphic design into Decorology but I thought some of these posters were so beautiful I just had to share.

Kids stuff so cute I'd get it for myself

It's likely most of you have heard of Serena and Lily - who create gorgeous whimsical kid and baby bedding - but if you're looking for gorgeous art and stationary you should check out Trendy Peas. Soothing colors and gorgeous typography is something even a big kid like me can appreciate.

I think this is just the cutest idea - for your baby or a friends. It's beautifully designed, too.

Isn't it delightful?

Not only do I just totally love this vintage postcard garland, but I love the photography and the way the photos are styled - simply beautiful! The little touches - the red hearts and the Eiffel Tower stamps - just make them even lovelier.

Give me a sign, any sign

One of the things I love most about decorating is the thrill of the chase. When I have something in mind, I love to go out searching, ever hopeful that I will find that perfect piece that I have so clearly in my mind.

One of those things I hope to find one day is a vintage salvaged sign.

I would love an old, weathered sign, full of character and charm that I could place on a wall as art.

I think there would be a huge amount of luck and serendipity in finding the right sign - the right amount of weathered-ness, the right colour, the right size, the right price....everything must fall oh-so-perfectly into place.

I love thinking about their history, wondering where they came from, what function they used to perform.

Usually cheaper than original art, and so much for meaningful than a print, I think signs can add colour, interest and originality to a room.

I love the typography in this graphic black and white sign tucked under a console, below.

This great big old advertising sign adds colour and a dash of humour.

Not sure if this is really vintage (below), but I love its mellow, warm colours.

Signs particularly appeal to me because of my love of typography.

This sign below was a lucky roadside find. How fabulous!

This (below) is not actually a sign, but artwork based on a sign - the next best thing I guess!

One day maybe I'll find a sign I love. In the meantime, I'm having fun searching one out. You never know your luck!

My latest obsession

After a bit of time off to get my son to settle in to school, it's back to full time work today. Oh how I was enjoying pretending to be a stay at home mum! Back to reality today, and it was totally full on, but I felt needed and useful, so that's good.

Anyways, on to my latest obsession. Text and fonts. I think I've been reading too many Scandanavian blogs. If you are a fan of these blogs too then you too will have noticed that a lot of the 'Scandanavian white blogs' as I call them (and there are many) seem to feature writing in some form. For instance yesterday I was reading about a very interesting lady, creator of Emmelines blog, who turned a plain jane Ikea shoe cupboard into a one of a kind piece by painting it white and putting the words to 'These boots are made for walking' on the front of the drawers. Cute! See it here. She used Scriptina font (see, that's how bad I'm getting, I can even identify the names of fonts now).

All around me I seem to see examples of the most exquisite, old-style text (this first one looks a little like Cezanne font to me...)

I don't have much in the way of text in my home, except this big rusty letter below, which I've had for years. It could be a C or a U, depending upon which way you look at it.

The Office

While visiting my old workplace yesterday, I couldn't help but notice the lack attention paid to the aesthetics of the office. This is by no means uncommon, which if you think about it is surprising considering the amount of time we all spend in the office. It's been proven through and through that good office design can promote productivity. It doesn't take much to improve your workspace either. For example, add some orange to your cubicle, and it will aid creativity. Get a small desk lamp with an incandescent bulb, and give your eyes a rest from constantly flickering fluorescents. Add a small floor rug to make your space feel more like home, and hang art or pictures on your walls that motivate you.
