White Done Right!

I am one of those people who loves color!  Normally, it makes me feel happy and energized, but with the oppressive heat (already) here in the south, I find myself drawn to clean, breezy, light spaces - mainly in the color white!

Domino Magazine

I totally get why people are so in love with an all-white palette!  It is serene, cooling and refreshing!

The first ingredient to a successful all-white room is light!  The more natural light you have the better, as lots of natural light is what brings a white room to life!

Texture is important in a white room.  It takes the place of color, creating contrast to make the space engaging!

Mostly we think of modern spaces when we envision a white room, but that doesn't necessarily have to be so...

I love the look of a white room with small hits of a single vibrant color to shake things up a bit!

Above and above this from here

One of my favorite rooms of all time, by Gerrie Bremerman!  Perfect combination of natural light, texture and a small dose of  that incredible blush pink...perfection!

How about you?  Do you love a white room?

Pared-back Paul

Paul Massey is a photographer based in London, who has a beautiful portfolio of work. His images often feature in gorgeous Brit magazine Living etc. I buy this magazine often, especially their famous annual 'white issue'.

Now Paul Massey's beautiful Victorian terrace home is featured in Living etc.

I adore the muted, restrained palette of Paul Massey's home: lashings of white, with soft browns and greys and a dash of black. Speaks of calm and sophistication to me.

A serial renovator, this is Paul Massey's tenth home he has brought to life by tearing down walls, adding french doors and bringing in lots of rustic, bespoke fixtures.

What was once a series of dark and pokey rooms is now bright, light and open-plan.

I love Paul's pared-back decorating style. It reminds me a lot of fellow Brit Atlanta Bartlett's style, just a touch more masculine and more minimal.

Paul and his daughter toured around Europe in a 60's VW campervan while the work was being done to bring the old place to life. They collected lots of beautiful curios along the way.

Paul's vignettes are spare, but beautiful and full of pieces with a lovely rustic patina.

Paul puts together his treasured, carefully collected pieces with a photographer's keen eye.

The home manages to be both spare and cosy at the same time. I could spend an hour or two lolling about on this couch with a good book and a hot chocolate.

If Paul Massey gets tired of photography, I think he should go into the decorating game! His house is simply stunning and inspiring.
If you would like a full tour of this delicous home, visit Living etc. To view Paul Massey's beautiful portfolio of work, go here.
Best wishes,

Chic accessories and furniture

This stuff is right up my alley, sadly, it's across the pond.. Why do I always find stuff I like overseas! urg...very frustrating. The store is called Coco Målé Interiors, and it looks like a great place for one's home decor basics. It's slightly trendy, but not so out there you'll have to send it off to goodwill a year from now. I also like their wide range of white furniture and accessories. If only places like Coco Målé Interiors and Zara Home would set up shop state side! *sigh*

Isn't this "teapot for one" adorable!!

These tealight holders are so pretty!

gorgeous clock...

I really want a bamboo stool like this

House tours from Domino

As part of my ongoing series of posts honoring our late friend Domino, I now bestow upon you some lovely house tours we all came to look forward to every month. *sigh* Enjoy.

Mary McDonald's "Tom Jones rock" inspired kitchen. I like the typography plates.

Kathryn Ireland's rustic style home. I love the humble bathroom, and the console in the kitchen with the dishes stowed underneath.

Actress Julianne Moore's stab at interior decorating. I like some of the choices she made - not all my style, but still pretty. I like the piece of drift wood on the radiator.

A rebuilt green home in New Orleans.

Domino style director Dara's lovely white bedroom.

I love Amanda Peet's down-to-earth, bohemian home. It's so ethereal and filled with interesting, meaningful objects. I also love that you can tell that she had a hand in it. She didn't just hire some designer to come in and make it look like a movie star's home.
